From Deadpool to Doctor Strange, the year 2016 gave us some of the greatest superhero films to date. Marvel’s ability to deliver enthralling performances, great direction and storyline, and extraordinary graphics has proven that they do not hold anything back when it comes to their films.
For this week’s Top List, I will be listing the four Marvel films gracing our screens in 2017.
Logan (March 3)
Director: James Mangold
Starring: Hugh Jackman, Boyd Holbrook, Patrick Stewart
The third and final Wolverine film, Logan is a film that takes inspiration from Old Man Logan by Mark Millar and Steven McNiven. The story follows an aging Wolverine, in the near future, who is taking care of an ailing Professor X as they try to protect a young female clone of Wolverine from an evil organization led by Nathanial Essex. Hugh Jackman has been playing the role of Wolverine for 17 years now, and this is intended to be his last, so it’s definitely a must-watch for Wolverine fans.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (May 5)
Director: James Gunn
Starring: Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Glenn Close, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, and Kurt Russell
Three years ago, the baddest criminals of the Cosmos assembled when an orb that contains an infinity stone brought them together. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the dysfunctional team’s adventures will continue as they help Peter Quill aka Star Lord learn more about his true parentage. Also, BABY GROOT!
Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7)
Director: Jon Watts
Starring: Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.
We saw a glimpse of the new Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, and now, he is getting his solo film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! The film follows Peter Parker as he tries to balance his life as a regular high school student with his newfound identity as the web-slinging superhero Spider-Man. The addition of Robert Downey, Jr. to the film definitely makes the film more worthwhile.
Thor: Ragnarok (November 3)
Director: Taika Waititi
Starring: Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban, Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins.
Set after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, the story follows Thor who is imprisoned on the other side of the universe. It’s a race against time for him as he tries to save Asgard from Hela and the Ragnarok, an event that would end Asgardian civilization. In addition to that, there’s also a “gladiatoral duel” between him and the Hulk, and Doctor Strange will also be making an appearance.
