Pokémon Sun and Moon: Ultra Beasts and the Aether Foundation

The Official Pokémon Channel released yet another video on YouTube giving us more information about the new games that will be released on November 18 this year.

In the trailer, it has been revealed that Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are set 12 hours apart, making certain events play out differently, and the example shown in the video is Gumshoos being the Totem Pokémon in Verdant Cavern for Pokémon Sun, while Raticate is the Totem Pokémon in Verdant Cavern for Pokémon Moon.

The trailer introduced two new Pokémon, and one new Alola Form for a Generation I Pokémon.

Type: Null is the first Pokémon revealed in the trailer, and at the time of the release, the Pokémon is already shrouded with mystery. The information about the Pokémon from the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon website are as follows.

  • This Pokémon wearing a mask has been dubbed “Null,” meaning nothing.
  • The shapes of its front and hind legs are clearly different. The reason is that Type: Null was constructed to synthesize the strengths of various Pokémon, enabling it to adapt to any situation.
  • The mask fitted to Type: Null’s head is a piece of equipment designed to control its latent powers. It’s extremely heavy, so it also serves to hinder Type: Null’s agility.
  • To complete a certain mission, there was need of a Pokémon powerful enough to rival those Pokémon often spoken of in mythology.

Also debuting in the trailer is the Dragon-type Pokémon Jangmo-o. A Pokémon that has the pride of a warrior, but remains humble about its power, it pursuits to become stronger by not neglecting its training, and it never turns its back on its enemies. Trainers see Jangmo-o as a valiant Pokémon because of its behavior.

Meanwhile, Alolan Raticate has also been introduced. One thing about this new Alola Form is that it continually stockpiles huge amounts of food in their nests. That is the reason why they look fatter.

The video also introduced the Aether Foundation, which constructed an artificial island called Aether Paradise to realize their goals to care for Pokémon that have been hurt. They use the artificial island to provide shelter for Pokémon, and to conduct various research projects.

The people behind Aether Foundation include Lusamine, the president of the foundation; Faba, the branch chief of Aether Paradise; Wicke, the assistant branch chief of Aether Paradise; and the employees who appear in various uniforms depending on the division they belong to.

Team Skull’s Enforcer Gladion was also introduced in the trailer, whose partner Pokémon is Type: Null. According to the Pokémon Sun and Moon website, he places a high value on being strong in Pokémon battles.

Dexio and Sina returns in the series to investigate Zygarde. They will give the player an item called the Zygarde Tube that the player will use to collect Cores and Cells which can be found all over Alola. Collecting these Cores and Cells will make the path to finding Zygarde in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon clearer.

The biggest reveal of the trailer is the introduction of the Ultra Beasts. These mysterious possess mighty powers that could pose a threat to both humans and Pokémon. The Aether Foundation is also conducting a research on these creatures, and each of them are known by a code name.

Only one Ultra Beast was revealed in the trailer, and it is UB-01. Here’s the full information about the beast from the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon website: UB-01’s body is composed of a glass-like substance. However, it’s constantly changing shapes, never settling on one. While evidence of something like a survival instinct can be observed in UB-01, no one knows whether it has a will of its own or any emotions. It’s said that, for some reason, its movements resemble those of a young girl.

Pokémon GO and Pokémon Snap also sort of takes over in the game, which is a really exciting feature because a lot of fan have been asking for a Pokémon Snap reboot.
